Formaldehyde

Description:
Formaldehyde, also known as methanal, is a colourless and flammable gas that has a pungent smell and is soluble in water.
The chemical formula of CH2O is readily broken down by cells but remains toxic at high concentrations.
It is used as a denaturant in formaldehyde-agarose gel electrophoresis of RNA. A gel concentration of 2.2Mformaldehyde is typically used.
