Sustainability in Action.

Severn Biotech has looked at its carbon foot-print and instigated a number of measures to reduce our use of materials and to recycle and re-use where ever we can.

Our commitment to net-zero emissions has been borne out by using renewable sources of energy from acquiring our electricity from Octopus, providing renewable power from wind turbines. Severn Biotech’s laboratory factory site, comprising over 10,000 Sq. Ft is completely lit by LED low power energy saving lighting.

Cardboard Recycling & Re-use.

We re-use cardboard boxes from other suppliers provided they are fit for purpose and label them to show we are re-using the box, which has been inspected for re-use! Any cardboard we cannot use as a box is shredded and re-used as internal packaging, so NO cardboard is ever just thrown away! It is 100% recycled and re-used.(See photo of shredded cardboard) So we have no landfill of cardboard reducing our costs considerably.

High Quality Poly-Propylene Bottles.

We utilize High Quality PP plastic bottles when  making sterile laboratory solutions which have to be autoclaved. Bottled products which contain Water or Phosphate buffer (PBS) in their manufacture, can be re-used once spent. The bottle can be returned to us, where they are washed and sterilized then re-used and re-charged with the same product again. The manufacturers state the PP bottles can be re-autoclaved Up to 5 times without losing their integrity. We then include a cycle number on the label of the bottle, so the client can see the frequency of use. This has been done with large volume clients who have asked us to re-cycle the bottles. They are of course subject to rigorous scrutiny and testing as with virgin PP bottles.
